Colin C. Smith
Tales Of Static Liquidity
Simultaneously non-traditional and familiar, abstract and recognizable, high-tech and hand-made; Omaha's Colin C. Smith continues to refine his style of superflat, seamless and multi-layered paintings which incorporate the visual rhythms and the beats of mass-media, magazines, music, streaming video, TV and over-saturated monitors. Smith uses brushes, stencils, air guns, sandpaper, patience, and other tools to apply 50 to 200 layers of pigmented resins and polymers to thin, shaped, aluminum panels; creating dense oceans of colors, shapes and patterns that reference the blitzkrieg of data that sails past our 21st century receptors during the normal course of life.
